Once in a while, we all crave for Chinese food! And going by the options that exist, one would be left confused which to choose from. Okay, let's make it simple by asking you to choose between egg rolls and spring rolls. Now before you throw up your hands stating they are one and the same, we ought to tell you that they aren't!

On the surface, they both look the same and sometimes have similar fillings. In many restaurants or say in the American lexicon, the terms "spring roll" and "egg roll" are often used interchangeably as the similarities between the two rolls are more pronounced than their differences. However, taste-wise, they definitely differ in their wrappers, fillings, appearance, and calories as well.

Yummy Beginnings

► The name 'spring roll' is a literal translation of the Chinese word Chūn Juǎn, which means spring roll. They are also known as spring pancakes or thin pancakes. It is said that in the olden times, Chinese people used to make thin flour pancakes with vegetables and fruits on the first day of spring. People would send this dish to their friends and relatives to welcome spring. Since then, this dish underwent several changes. Today, there are several regional varieties of the spring roll.

► The word 'egg roll' is a translation of a Chinese word Jīdàn juǎn. Though the origin of egg roll is unknown, several Asian countries have claimed it, and many say that the spring roll led to its creation. Originally an Asian dish, egg roll spread throughout the world. These were introduced in America by Chinese immigrants who tried to cook something that would appeal to the Americans.

Spring Rolls Vs. Egg Rolls

Wrappers Used

► Spring roll wrappers are usually made of wheat flour, water, and salt. The ingredients are kneaded well together. The batter is spread thin on a surface, and then steamed to create a thin layer of pancake. Sometimes, rice paper is used to wrap a spring roll as well.

► Egg roll wrappers, obviously, contain eggs. Wrappers are prepared from a mixture of eggs, wheat flour, water, and salt; hence, the name. The dough is kneaded well and rolled out into a thin layer. The layer is usually thicker than the spring roll wrapper. Egg noodle dough can be used as an alternative too.

Roll Fillings

► Spring rolls typically use all the veggies for stuffing. With fresh vegetables, sometimes noodles can be filled in these rolls. The vegetables and noodles are usually cooked beforehand. Pork or shrimp is filled in spring rolls with vegetables, especially when they are wrapped with rice paper.

► Egg rolls use meat and fish fillings. Pork or chicken meat with vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and bean shoots are used as fillings in egg rolls. Though pork and chicken are popular fillings for egg rolls, other meats also can be filled in these rolls. Due to a variety of fillings, egg rolls are larger than spring rolls.

Appearance

► Spring rolls are deep-fried. However, they are not given an egg wash. Hence, the outer surface of spring roll wrappers does not have any blisters on it. The color is usually paler than egg rolls and a little grayish as the wrapper dough does not contain eggs in it. After frying, the wrappers become crispy. However, in case of a rice paper wrappers, they are not fried, but served either steamed or as it is. In such cases, their surface remains smoother and translucent. Spring rolls can be served either hot or cold.

► An egg roll is typically deep or pan-fried. These rolls are given an egg wash before frying, which gives them that beautiful golden-brown color. The surface usually has a blister-like appearance and is not smooth. The thick wrapper becomes crunchy due to deep-frying. It is usually served hot.

Nutrition

► A spring roll contains around 2 g of proteins. On the other hand, due to all the meat and egg in it, an egg roll's protein count goes up to around 5 g.

► Depending upon the size and ingredients, the nutrition and calorie count for both types of rolls varies. However, generally, the calories in an egg roll range from 130 - 190. One spring roll, on the other hand, consists of 60 - 110 calories.

► The total fat in a spring roll is about 4 g, while in an egg roll, it is about 6 g.
Prom-Dresses
Whatever the differences are, it is for sure that both delicacies are equally yummy to gorge on. In addition, the recipes for preparation of spring rolls and egg rolls are easy to follow. All you have to do is either buy egg roll or spring roll wrappers, add in the fillings of your choice, and deep-fry them. Your at-home Chinese snack will be ready to chow down!

Different Styles of Slacklining

Bridesmaid Dresses
Slacklining is the act of balancing on a nylon or polyester webbing that is rigged between two anchor points. This write-up provides a brief overview of the different styles of slacklining, from regular urbanlining to the adventurous form termed highlining.
Andy Lewis (Sketchy Andy), became the first ever slackline world champion in 2008, and is considered to be the father of modern-day tricklining.
Bridesmaid Dresses
Rope walking has been practiced as a sport since the age of the Romans, and has now given rise to the modern hobby-cum-adventure sport called slacklining.

Evolved from the rich climbing culture in the Yosemite Valley of California, slacklining refers to the act of walking and playing tricks on webbed lines tensioned between two anchor points. The tension of the line can be adjusted according to the activities or tricks to be performed on the line, as well as the length and altitude of the line.

Slacklining may be performed as a hobby, as a means to stay fit by slackline yoga, or as a competitive sport through tricklining, longlining, and highlining. The different styles of slacklining have been described below, followed by a list of few records set by adventurous young slackers.

Styles of Slacklining

Urbanlining

This refers to any of the slacklining activities that are practiced in urban areas, like city parks, schools, community centers, streets, etc.

Urbanlining in a park

The slackers use urban anchors, like lamp poles, telephone poles, or even bridges to rig the slackline. Trees with a diameter of more than 12 inches serve as ideal anchor points.

However, certain cities disallow slacklining on streets and other urban areas, to avoid mishaps, whereas some have limitations with respect to the timings, length of the lines, the type and size of trees that can be used to rig the lines while slacklining in parks, etc.

Tricklining

Being the most common and trending style, tricklining refers to setting up low, short, and tight lines for performing several tricks, spins, jumps, and gymnastics. A two-inch webbing and tight line are preferred for tricklining in order to provide the strength required for tricks and ensure a smooth landing.

The tricks performed are categorized into static and dynamic tricks.

Static Tricklining

Static Tricklining

Static tricks involve slow-moving tricks and still poses, wherein the slackliner is constantly in contact with the line. These include walking, walking backwards, moonwalk, sitting, handstands, splits, etc.

Dynamic Tricklining

Dynamic Tricklining

Dynamic tricks involve bounces as well as movements such that the slackliner loses contact with the line and lands on it again without losing the balance. It includes chest bounces, butt bounces, as well as several types of jumps, flips, jump rotations, and surfing. Adept trickliners can even jump from one line and land on another without falling off.

Slackline Yoga

Also called Slackasana, this calm style of slacklining refers to practicing yoga poses on the slackline. Generally, a one-inch webbing is used for slackline yoga, and the line is looser than that for tricklining and walking.

Slackline Yoga

It was the duo of Sam Salwei and Jason Magness, who first attempted to perform yoga poses on rigged lines. Yoga poses, like the Warrior pose, Buddha pose, Tree pose, and other standing, kneeling, and sitting postures can be practiced. Considered to be the most enduring style, it focuses on breathing while maintaining the balance, and requires a deep level of concentration. Ten minutes of slackline yoga is considered to be equivalent to one and a half hours of regular yoga.

Waterlining

This style simply refers to slacklining that is performed over water, i.e., pools, lakes, or even rivers.

Waterlining

It increases the fun and adventure quotient as well as safety while performing the various jumps and tricks. However, one has to ensure that the water region chosen for waterlining must be free from rocks and boulders. Waterlining on a pool provides the perfect setting for learning new tricks. The line may even be set slightly below the water surface, increasing the challenge to maintain balance on the line.

Longlining

Longlining refers to setting up of lines that are generally longer than 100 feet, and require much more tension than the regular tree-to-tree urbanlines and tricklines.

Longlining

It helps increase the consistency in maintaining balance, and prepares the individual to focus for long periods of time. Long waterlines serve as the best way to prepare for highlining. Many longlines have been set up by individuals in a spree to make new longline records. The first longline record was set at 328 feet by a photographer and extreme climber named Heinz Zak, in 2005.

Highlining

This is the most advanced style of slacklining, and it refers to setting up lines high above the ground or water.

Highlining

It involves slacklining at high altitudes in the mountains, or across valleys, canyons, etc. An additional backup line may be attached below the main line. The use of a climbing harness and safety leash is recommended along with a safety ring that links the leash to the line and slides along the line. Some adventurous daredevils prefer to go highlining without the use of safety leashes, in which case, it is termed as free solo highlining.

12 Examples of Intraspecific Competition

Prom-Dresses
The continuous struggle between individuals of a species for a limited common resource is called intraspecific competition. This competition is required for the stability of any ecosystem. This Buzzle article gives you an overview of this concept along with some examples of intraspecific competition.
Example of intraspecific competition
Carrying Capacity (K)
Prom-Dresses
It is the maximum population size of a species that can sustain infinitely in an environment, provided that food, water, habitat, and other factors are maintained. It is also known as the maximal load of the environment.
Every organism belongs to an ecological niche. A niche can be described as a functional relationship an organism has with its biotic and abiotic environment. It may include various physical factors (like temperature, humidity, soil), biotic components (like prey, predators), and the behavioral aspect of the organism as well as the organisms that surround it.

Individuals that inhabit the same ecological niche require almost the same resources for their survival. As these resources may be limited, it gives rise to a continuous struggle between its inhabitants. This struggle is aptly called competition (as individuals compete with one another). Competition between individuals can be one of the greatest factors that may contribute to the population growth of the species that inhabit a niche.

Competition between organisms can be interspecific or intraspecific. When individuals of different species compete with each other for food, water, and space is known as interspecific competition. When individuals of the same species compete with each other, we call this phenomenon intraspecific competition. In this Buzzle article, we will look into intraspecific competition in detail.

Intraspecific Competition

● Intraspecific competition can be defined as the competition between individuals belonging to the same species for essential resources such as food, water, space, sunlight, or mates. As these resources are limited, the individual have to compete with each other; this reduces the fitness of individuals of the species, and hence, does not let the population of the species grow exponentially.

● Let us explain how this works, when we say a population grows exponentially, we mean that the size of a particular population increases continuously. As resources are limited, an increase in the number of individuals reduces the amount of resource available for each individual, and thus, may have a negative effect on the growth of the population.

● We can thus say that as the population size of a species increases, the intraspecific competition between the individuals of that species also increases. The effects of intraspecific competition has far reaching effects on population size of a species as compared to interspecific competition. The reason for this is simple, as the individuals of the same species compete for identical resources (space, food, and mate), this type of competition is more pronounced.

● Intraspecific competition can either be direct, in which the individuals literally fight each other over the resources. Sometimes, it may be of an indirect manner, where one individual may exhaust a particular resource.

Let us now take a look at some examples of intraspecific competition.

Intraspecific Competition Examples
● About 10% of adult male Grevy's zebras are territorial. These territories assure breeding privileges to the male, other male zebras are given access to the territory but aren't allowed to mate with the females that reside in the territory. Thus, these individual compete with each other for mates.

● Male antelopes tend to hold territories when they 3-4 years old. During the mating season or rut males try to collect as many females as possible, even if the female doesn't belong to the territory. This leads to a fight between rival males and is yet another example of intraspecific competition for mates.

● Male elephant seals battle over a harem of females to mate with. These battles are usually fatal. Most males are either killed or are prevented from mating by more dominant males. This battle ensures courting privileges to the male.

● Male Red-winged Blackbirds establish territories specifically for the purpose breeding during breeding season. The male and females do go out of the territory for foraging, but other males aren't allowed to enter their territories.

● In European adders, the males might fight potential rivals (for mates) by performing the ritual, what zoologists like to call, the "adder dance". The males raise the front part of their bodies vertically and sway with an attempt to push the other to the ground, this continues until one of them gives up and slithers away.

● It has also been observed that Chilean flamingos show aggressive behavior in defense of their mates and offspring.

● The brown river trout are seen to self-limit themselves and can be considered as an example of population dependent intraspecific competition. These fish are capable of adjusting their rate of fertility depending on the amount of space available for the population, and thus, maintain an almost steady rate of population growth.

● When food in the surrounding environment is extremely scarce, certain animals may resort to cannibalism and consume individuals of their own species. Sharks, rodents, and other animals are examples this phenomenon. There have been instances in history where even humans have resorted to this mean.

● Sometimes, intraspecific competition can be more indirect, where there may be decrease in the number of prey for another individual. When a lioness hunts a prey, say an antelope, that antelope can no longer be hunted by another lioness.

● In juvenile wolf spiders, the siblings don't compete with each other directly. Here, all the individuals feed on the limited food resource to exhaust it after a certain period of time. This decreases the fitness of every individual in the population and may cause a decrease in the population size due to starvation.

● Adult gray seals show niche partitioning and differential habitat preference as a form of intraspecific competition. The juvenile seals only take shorter and shallower dives, whereas the adult seals have almost exclusive access to the rich benthic zone and are able to forage easily.

● In white-faced Capuchin monkeys, both males and females compete over the limited source of food. Individuals with a better access to food and the most dominant individuals get the larger share of food. Thus, the resources are distributed unequally between different individuals.

What Does a Frivolous Lawsuit Mean?

Frivolous lawsuits end up wasting the court's time and legal expenses. But what is considered a frivolous lawsuit? Find the answer in this article, which gives its legal definition and some examples.
Frivolous lawsuit meaning
Evening Dress
Prom Dresses
Did You Know?
According to a 2013 report by the US Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, the US legal system is the costliest in the world.
These days, one often hears of people suing others for extreme reasons. Take for example the woman who spilled coffee on herself while driving, and then sued McDonald's, saying that they were guilty of making very hot coffee. Another case is where a man set a ladder in a pile of manure, and then sued the ladder company, upon falling. While these cases may seem silly, there's more to them than meets the eye.

Stella Liebeck, the woman who sued McDonald's, suffered serious burns on 6% of her body, because the fast food giant produces coffee hotter by 50ºF than ordinary. On the other hand, Larry Hodge did not slip from his ladder; it broke under his meager weight, despite the company claiming it could handle up to 1,000 lb.

While these cases had some legal basis, there are, in fact, lawsuits which are simply filed for petty reasons.

What Constitutes a Frivolous Lawsuit?

A frivolous lawsuit is one which is not supported by facts or laws, but intended for malicious purposes. The plaintiff (person who files the case) and his lawyer are aware that they have little chance of winning if the case is pursued, but decide to file suit anyway. Such suits intend to harass, embarrass, or disturb the other party, increase legal costs, or simply delay the legal process.

The term 'frivolous' does not always mean filing a baseless lawsuit; it can also include a baseless motion (requests to the judge), a defendant's (person being sued) answer which doesn't make any point or argument, or an appeal against a judgment without any basis.

A case not based on facts may not always be labeled frivolous, if the individual filing it and his attorney have some faith in their argument. Similarly, the loss of a case also doesn't mean it was frivolous.

Consequences of a Frivolous Lawsuit

Frivolous lawsuits end up wasting the court's and the opposite party's time, expenses, and resources. For this reason, courts take a dim view of such cases. If a lawsuit is discovered to be frivolous, the judge may immediately dismiss it without further hearings. The individual, who has filed the suit may have to pay a civil fine going into thousands of dollars, or even face charges of 'contempt of court' (being disrespectful).

In some cases, lawyers who have a history of arguing frivolous claims may have to pay fines, face citations (a document listing all charges), or even have their license canceled.

Judges are, however, less likely to label claims as frivolous and impose such drastic penalties, as this might deter people from approaching the legal system to resolve disputes. So, the number of such lawsuits is minimal.

How to Respond to a Frivolous Lawsuit

When one faces a frivolous lawsuit or appeal, the best course of action is to hire a competent lawyer who can decide the next course of action. Such cases can be approached in various ways, as given below.

The defendant can push for the dismissal of the lawsuit right at the beginning.
He/she can fight for financial penalties, called 'sanctions', to be imposed on the opposite party.
He can recover his legal expenses from the opposite party.
After winning the case, the defendant can file a countersuit for 'malicious prosecution', arguing that the lawsuit was frivolous and fought for malicious motives.

Examples

♦ Honda of America Mfg., v. Norman
On the night of December 2, 1992, 23-year-old Karen Norman died after reversing her Honda Civic into Galveston Bay, Texas. Her parents sued Honda Co., claiming that their seat belts couldn't be opened underwater, and even received $65 million in damages from a lower court order. However, an appeals court reversed the order, because it was found that a passenger in the car was able to swim to safety, and the alcohol level in Norman's blood was 0.17 (twice the approved limit).

♦ Overton v. Anheuser-Busch Co.
In 1991, the brewing company Anheuser-Busch was sued for $10,000 by a man named Richard Overton, who claimed that the company indulged in false advertising, as he did not have any success with women after consuming their 'Budweiser' beer, contrary to what was shown in their television advertisement. The case was thrown out of court.

♦ Robert L. Brock v. Robert L. Brock
In 1995, Robert Lee Brock, an inmate at a Virginia prison, sued himself for a sum of $5 million. He believed that he had violated his own civil rights and religious principles by drinking, because according to Brock, all his offenses stemmed from his drinking habit. However, since he couldn't work to sum up the money, he wanted the state (Virginia), who had locked him up, to pay. The case was dismissed.

♦ Roller v. Blaine and Copperfield
Christopher Roller, a resident of Minnesota, sued celebrity magicians David Blaine (for $2 million) and David Copperfield (for $50 million), accusing them of stealing his powers by witchcraft. Roller believed himself to be god, and claimed that the magic tricks performed by the duo were only possible by using divine powers, so they must have stolen them from him.

♦ Aitken v. NBC Television Network
NBC TV network was sued by Austin Aitken, a 49-year-old viewer of their show 'Fear Factor' for damages of $2.5 million. Aitken claimed that one of the stunts in the show which showed contestants eating rats made him vomit and so disoriented that he missed a door, slamming into the wall. The case was thrown out by the judge.

Are Chicken Stock and Chicken Broth the Same?

Prom-Dresses
Many people assume chicken broth and stock to be the same and hence treat them as exchangeable options while cooking. However, truth be told, there do exist considerable differences between a chicken stock and broth in terms of ingredients, texture, taste, and nutrients.
Difference between chicken stock and chicken broth
Achhoo!!
Homemade chicken soup prepared from chicken stock or broth is known for its healing qualities when it comes to cold and flu. It is also said to aid digestion and boost the immune system.
Prom-Dresses
Chicken soup is definitely a wholesome food item that is really healthy and comforting to us. In several households, it is the answer for many maladies. It is usually prepared by boiling chicken pieces in water with vegetables and seasoning. Ready-made chicken broth can be also used while preparing the soup. Wait, do you use chicken stock or chicken broth in the soup? Well, to tell you, they are different from each other.

The question can perplex anyone as these two terms are often used interchangeably. The main reason for the confusion might be due to the fact that they both consist of almost similar ingredients. It makes it harder to distinguish between them. However, on looking closer, one can tell chicken stock from broth. Let us find out the subtle differences between them.

While Cooking
Like we mentioned above, both comprise almost the same ingredients, i.e., chicken. However, the basic difference between them is which parts of a chicken are to be used while making stock and broth. In addition to this, there are other ingredients such as vegetables, seasoning, and salt that add to the minute differences.

Chicken Stock
◆ Chicken stock is made using mainly chicken bones. Bones are cooked with water in a large pot on a medium to low heat. Vegetables such as onions, carrots, and celery are added to the chicken bones along with seasonings. The stock is usually simmered about 4 - 8 hours on a low flame.

◆ Salt is not added in the stock while preparing it. As the stock is usually reduced while using it in soups and sauces, adding salt in it might make it very salty to taste.

◆ Fresh herbs and spices can be added in the last 10 minutes of cooking the stock. However, their dried version should be added in the last hour of the cooking.

◆ Stock can be prepared by adding chicken meat along with the bones. However, the meat quantity is always lesser than the bones.

Chicken Broth
◆ Chicken broth is mainly prepared with chicken meat. Whole chicken or the meaty parts are cooked in water on a medium to low heat. Like in case of the stock, vegetables such as onions, carrots, and celery are added with the desired seasonings into the broth. It does not take a long time as stock to cook. Broth is cooked for one hour or until the chicken is cooked thoroughly. Cooking it more than needed might result in tough and flavorless meat.

◆ Unlike chicken stock, salt is added in chicken broth while cooking. Though it can be used as a base for soups and sauces, broth is usually consumed as it is. Therefore, salt is added while it is being cooked.

◆ Herbs and spices can be added while cooking the broth.

◆ Sometimes, bones are added in the broth as well. However, their quantity is lesser than the meat present.

Texture and Taste

Chicken Stock
◆ Chicken stock has richer flavor and texture. The meaty flavor comes from cartilage and connective tissues. They have collagen in them, which turns to gelatin. It helps the stock to thicken.

Chicken Broth
◆ Chicken broth usually has a lighter taste than the stock. Therefore, it works great as a neutral base for soups and sauces. It has a thinner body than the stock, and it remains in the liquid state after it cools down after cooking.

Nutrition

◆ According to the USDA, there are 36 calories in homemade chicken stock per 100 gm. On the other hand, a canned chicken broth prepared with equal amount of water has 16 calories per 100 gm.

◆ The protein count is almost the same in both the food items. In chicken stock, it is 2.52 g, and while in chicken broth, it is 2.02 g.

◆ In the stock, the total fat content is 1.20 g. On the other hand, it is 0.57 g in broth.

◆ In chicken stock, the sugar totals up to 1.58 g. In broth, it is 0.29 g.

◆ Broth is a richer source of sodium than stock with 306 mg due to the salt content in it. Stock has 143 mg of sodium content.
Prom-Dresses
In the end, it does not matter which is better. All that matters is that how you use them in different recipes. For example, you can use chicken stock instead of chicken broth to make it even more tasty!

Individuals born between March 21st and April 20th belong to the first sign―Aries―of the zodiac. Being the first sign, Aries is usually known as the "infant", and individuals belonging this sign sure do behave like one! An Aries individual is truly fearless, not afraid of the obstacles that one might have to face. These individuals love their freedom and in no way would let anyone take it away from them. Their self-reliance and confidence is truly worth envying.

An infant never worries about the discomfort it may cause to others, the same is true with Aries. They never seem to realize that their behavior may hurt the sentiments of those around them. Their fearlessness can at times be impulsive and rash, and may cause them to face consequences for their thoughtlessness.

Although these individuals may seem emotionally aloof at times, it is truly a privilege to be loved by them (they don't love easily). When in love, their love knows no bounds (provided you don't curb their individuality). They will do whatever it takes to love you, support you, and take care of you. Knowing a few true Aries, we can surely say that they will fight with whole world for someone they truly love. Aries being one of the most loyal beings on earth will follow you till the ends of the earth even if no one else does. Although the beginning of a journey with these people may be rocky, as long as you give them their space, these people will be worth cherishing for the rest of your life (they will be there!)

Respite for medical limitations on sugar intake is here in the form of sugar-free ice cream recipes. These ice creams are not only low in sugar, but also high in protein and suitable for diabetics and weight-watchers. The almond and choco-chip variants are excellent dessert alternatives for those committed to a low-carb diet. Now the question arises as to what should be used in place of sugar so that it does not alter the sweet taste drastically. There are various artificial sweeteners available in the market today, which can be used instead of sugar.

Sugar-free Ice cream Recipes
The recipes call for skimmed milk, but you can also use regular milk. Since skimmed milk contains low fat content, the texture of the ice cream won't be creamy. For better results use regular milk, however, for more healthy ice creams you can opt for skimmed milk. For the sweetness add artificial sweetener, however, the quantity required will differ from brand to brand. Add a teaspoon at a time, and taste to see if the blend is sweet enough. Fruits with lower sugar content and higher fiber content, such as strawberries, blueberries, cantaloupes, etc. can be added to these ice creams to improve the flavor of the ice cream.

Add milk, cream and keep stirring while you add the sugar substitute. Place the saucepan over moderate heat and keep on stirring for 3 to 4 minutes till you see tiny bubbles gathering around its edges. Remove the mixture from the heat, cover and let it steep for 1 hour. After an hour place the covered mixture in the refrigerator until thoroughly chilled. Remove the vanilla pods and stir this mixture again. Transfer this mixture to an ice cream maker and let it freeze according to the instructions on the ice cream maker. If you don't have vanilla pods, whisk in vanilla extract into the milk, cream and sugar substitute mixture. Skip the heating process, just whisk well and refrigerate overnight. The next day using an ice cream maker churn the mixture for 35-40 minutes, till the ice cream sets.

Nerve Damage After Surgery

Prom Dresses
The different aspects of nerve damage after surgery are taken into account through this article. Focus of the article is on understanding about this complex medical problem through explanation of important points.
There is a high chance of nerves getting damaged due to bruises or cuts made by scalpel at the time of surgery. Inflammation of tissues surrounding the nerves also results into their damage. Damage caused to nerves in some cases, can be repaired. However, there is a high possibility that nerves get damaged permanently; the problem of nerve damage after surgery is therefore, quite a serious one. Let us find more on the subject of nerve injuries caused after a surgery through this article.
Prom Dresses
The nervous system is an important component of our body. It is basically divided in two types i.e. central and peripheral nervous system. The nervous system is a network formed of neurons which allow coordination between and regulation of various activities of the body. The injury caused to nerves is therefore, considered a serious matter. Injuries are varied in their form and hence, it becomes difficult to classify them into different types. However, in the year 1943, Sir Herbert Seddon tried to classify the different nerve injuries into 3 types i.e. neurapraxia, neurotmesis and axonotmesis.

Neurapraxia: In the condition called neurapraxia, there is no alteration in the structure of nerves however, conduction of impulse is interrupted due to the injury. This condition results from external injuries that are not very severe; loss of sensory and motor functions can be observed. Some of the complex coordinated body movements cannot take place in neurapraxia. This type of injury can be healed completely. It takes about 6-8 weeks for completely recovering from neurapraxia. Blood supply disruption and nerve compression are some of the effects of such type of nerve damage.
Axonotmesis: In this type of nerve injury, the neuronal axon and myelin sheath is disrupted. However, the other components like schwann cells, epineurium, perineurium and endoneurium remain intact. The injury caused to nerves is quite serious in nature if compared to that in neurapraxia. The axonotmesis nerve injury paralyzes sensory, motor or autonomic nerves.
Neurotmesis: This kind of nerve injury is characterized by stretches, contusions, lacerations, etc. It is the most severe nerve injury of all. In this type of injury, the connective tissues along with axons lose their continuity. In neurotmesis, the nerve and its sheath get disrupted. To put it simply, the nerve is snapped apart into two parts. It is possible to attain only a partial recovery from this kind of nerve injury.

Surgery Induced Nerve Damage
The condition of nerve damage has many underlying causes apart from the physical damage (bruises, cuts) that results from surgical instruments. Anesthesia is one of the causes of nerve damage. The discomfort caused by nerve damage could be temporary or long-lasting. Medications used in anesthesia or the syringe may cause damage to nerve tissues. In a condition called spinal epidural (regional anesthesia), injury caused by injection may damage the spinal cord.

Symptoms of Nerve Damage After Surgery
Different types of symptoms of nerve damage that are exhibited after a surgery can be found below.

A severe burning pain, also known as neuropathic pain, is sometimes experienced after a nerve surgery.
Changes in walking patterns or difficulty in walking properly is also amongst the symptoms of nerve damage.
If a nerve gets damaged during knee surgery, one might experience weakness in the feet or ankles.
Foot drop is another symptom of nerve damage exhibited after a knee surgery.
Dragging toe is one of the conditions that results from nerve damage after knee surgery.
One who has undergone such kind of surgery might experience a feeling of numbness or tingling in the area specific to the nerve getting damaged. Such kind of sensation is referred to as 'pin and needles'. Loss of innervation also is a term used in reference with this condition. It is not necessary that symptoms of nerve damage show up in body parts exactly where the damage has occurred. The nerves, as we know, form a complex network in the body. Therefore, the pain could be experienced at distant places, away from the actual site.

Femoral Nerve Damage After Surgery
The damage caused to femoral nerve present in legs results in a condition called femoral nerve dysfunction. This nerve is known to provide sensation to thighs and lower portions of legs. The nerve generally gets damaged at the time of surgery; it happens most probably due to operations carried out in the lithotomy position. In this position, the legs and thighs of the patient are flexed and he/she is made to lay on the back.
Prom Dresses
The aforementioned details about nerve damage include the causes and symptoms of different types of injuries. Information presented above should therefore, prove to be useful for those suffering from such problems; it would help in dealing with nerve injuries to some extent.

Identification Tips and Value of a 1942 Dime

Prom Dress
Here is a treat to all the vintage coin aficionados out there. Buzzle gives you tips to identify a genuine 1942 dime as well as some information on the value of these dimes.
Fact about 1942 dime
Do Not Clean Your Coins
Cleaning vintage coins decreases their value considerably. Cleaned coins are usually easily noticed by seasoned coin dealers and collectors.
The Mercury dime is a ten-cent coin that was minted from the year 1916 to 1945. It was designed by German sculptor Adolph Weinman. This coin was called Mercury dime because it depicted Lady Liberty with a winged Phrygian cap on its obverse side. Due to the wings, she is usually confused with the Roman God Mercury.
Prom-Dresses
This coin also has the word 'Liberty' engraved around its rim as well as the words, " In.God.We.Trust". The obverse side also has the year of mint engraved on it.

The reverse side of this coin depicts a fasces (bundle of rods with an ax attached to it) with an olive branch wrapped around it. The fasces symbolizes unity and strength, whereas the olive branch symbolizes peace. It has the Latin phrase "E Pluribus Unum" engraved on it, which can be translated to "one from many".

What Makes these Coins Unique?

The coins minted in the year 1942 would've gone unnoticed and the numismatic world wouldn't have buzzed about it to this date, had there not been for a minor glitch in the minting of these coins. On close observation, you will find an overdate on this dime, wherein both numbers "1" and "2" have been inscribed on it. "1" is inscribed slightly towards the left of the number "2".

It has been observed that this defect is more prominent on the dimes minted in Philadelphia, and this was detected almost immediately. The same defect was observed in coins minted in Denver (usually denoted by the symbol "D") but wasn't very prominent, and it took almost two decades to discover this defect. The coins minted in San Francisco didn't seem to have this defect.

How to Spot a Fake 1942 Dime?

In this age of technology, the biggest challenge the numismatic world faces is of counterfeits flooding the vintage coin market. It is therefore of uttermost importance that you are able to identify what is authentic and what is not.

According to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, the key to spot a fake 1942 dime is to observe it closely―the coin says it all. Usually, reproduced vintage coins have to be marked with the word "COPY". The size of this label should not be less than one-sixth the diameter of the coin, with the ideal dimensions being 2 mm X 6 mm.

There is a good chance that a majority of makers of these reproduced coins might also sell these counterfeit coins too (without the label of "COPY"). In such cases, look for the following things.

The mint-mark: It pays to know the facts! One counterfeit showed a "2" over "1" overdate, while the reverse side of the coin showed an "S" mint mark. We know that such a coin is fake as the coins produced in San Francisco didn't have this overdate.
Ill defined letters: Another replica didn't have the words properly engraved on it. The letters on this coin looked different than the authentic ones. You can also compare the rim of the suspected coin with the original ones, if the width of the rim is not the same as the original, then you've got yourself a fake.
Words and spacing: Look at the words and date engraved, compare the spacing between the alphabets and the angle where is the alphabets/numbers are placed, to determine its authenticity.
Certification: Lastly, you can also check for its authenticity certificate in order to detect a fake.

What is the Value of a 1942 Dime?

The coins that do not have an overdate, do not have much value. These coins, however, are made of 90% silver and can fetch you two dollars per coin depending on the price of silver on the given day.

Depending on the condition of the coins with the overdate, these coins can be easily sold anywhere between USD 300 to above USD 2,000.

* The prices mentioned below are in U.S. dollars and may vary according to condition and location.

Date and Mint G VG F VF XF UNC BU BU-FB
1942, 42 over 41 570 618 713 808 903 2,375 14,250 33,250

Tips for Writing a Literacy Narrative
You need to remember that literacy narratives are theme-based and open-formed, and do not have a strict structure or thesis. Following are some general steps and tips on writing a good literacy narrative.

✑ Choose a topic that means something to you. You could write about personal challenges like overcoming difficulties, early memories of listening to a story or reading it, or simply write about your favorite book, poem, etc.

✑ Make a list of a few ideas that you would like to cover in your literacy narrative. These should be written in a sentence form. This is because a literacy narrative is not just about writing about your favorite literature, it is more personal than that. It is about realizing why you liked reading the literature, what attracted you to it, etc.

✑ Begin writing the first draft of your very first literacy narrative. Do not go astray from your topic; stay focused on the theme. If you are unsure about your theme, work on it simultaneously.

✑ Revise the draft and clear any mistakes that you've made.

✑ Use a lot of imagery as this will transform your audiences to your memory, allowing them to connect to you, your experiences, and events. This method is also known as reflecting.

✑ Describe everything well and use other sensory details, viz., smell, touch, and taste.

✑ Give a suitable title for the paper.

✑ Include some dialogs as this keeps the reader/listener captivated to the literature.

✑ Get a peer to review it.

✑ If required, reedit your literacy narrative with the help of your seniors, parents, teachers, etc.

✑ Give it another good read and you are done writing your literacy narrative.

Things to Remember
You will need to ask the following questions time and again while and after writing your narrative.

✑ What do I want to do? What do I want to convey?

✑ What were the crucial moments and details in the event?

✑ Does my literacy narrative have a title?

✑ Am I staying on the topic?

✑ Does this make sense to someone who doesn't know anything about me or a literacy narrative?

✑ Describe the characters and settings well.

✑ Does it have an open-form structure?

✑ Is it generic or does it have some personal experiences?

✑ Have I used sufficient examples?

✑ Is it appropriate for my audience? As in, is the diction, tone, and language appropriate for the purpose of my literacy narrative? Is it too casual or too formal?

✑ Is it clear? Are the terminologies, examples, events, etc., understandable?

An Example of a Literacy Narrative
Power of a Prayer
One winter, when I was eight years old, my father and I had taken a ride to aunt Sally's house. Halfway back home, the car began to wobble and slow down. Dad realized that the car had a flat tire. To make things worse, we were stranded in the middle of a snowstorm. I could hear the helplessness in my dad's voice as he said, "We could sure use a Christmas miracle right about now." I remember how much I detested that old red car, mainly because the radio didn't work. Nothing really worked in that car, but luckily, dad got his miracle! The heater suddenly sprung into action and we were quiet thankful that we didn't freeze to death. We waited there in the middle of nowhere for someone to come along and help us out.

The cold wind started blowing in through the little gap in the door frame and the window. It whistled and moaned and scared me half to death. The breeze that blew in was pricking my nose and cheeks. I could smell the pine tree in the air; given the fact that we had one tied to the roof, Christmas was just a few days away. Dad and I both began search for some way to clog that thin gap to keep the cold out. As I reached into my jacket pocket, I realized there was a piece of folded paper in it. I pulled it out, only to realize that it was the lyrics of the carol, Hallelujah. I was overcome with the sudden burst of the singing spell, and I began to sing it. Dad too pitched in now and then. By the time I sang Hallelujah after the second verse, the cold winds had stopped. As we sang, "... and every breath we drew was hallelujah", we heard a familiar honk coming from behind us. And what do you know, it was my Uncle Mitch coming our way with help!

Topics for a Literacy Narrative

✑ What is your earliest memory of learning to read or write?

✑ Which story or book was significant to you in your adolescent life?

✑ Who taught you to write?

✑ How did your attitude towards reading and writing develop?

✑ The first time I wrote a letter/love letter/poem/novel.

✑ The time I won or lost a crucial debate.

✑ The time I forgot my lines in a play.

✑ The first time you wrote something on your own.

✑ My favorite bedtime story as a child.

✑ The time I felt like an illiterate.

✑ The time I won a prize for reading/writing.

✑ The time I got my first computer/Facebook account/e-mail account, etc.

✑ The first time I recited holy scriptures at the church/temple/or at my Bar or Bat Mitzvah.
Prom-Dresses
Remember this little piece of advice―you can write anything using a complex and difficult language. But, the point behind your writing will not be achieved if the listener/reader of your work is unable to comprehend it. Keep your language clear, plain, and simple as this will help your message to be understood easily.

4 Ways to Roast Raw Cashews

Prom Dress
Roasted cashews are a great snack-time option. They are healthy and delicious at the same time. Learn how to roast cashews; they take just a few minutes to make and come out great every time. Beware, you're gonna ask for more over and over!
Make Your Own Honey-glazed Cashews
Mix a tablespoon of honey, vanilla, and melted butter with the raw cashews, and add a teeny bit of salt to it. Roast them in an oven at 325°F for about twelve minutes (stirring every few minutes). Remove them from the heat and dust them with some powdered sugar and a little cinnamon.
It's still an hour to go for meal time but your stomach has a mind of its own. It is desperately craving for something tasty. Before giving into the urge of nibbling crunchy-salty somethings with a packet of chips, try some roasted cashews instead.
Prom-Dresses
Rich in omega-3-fatty acids, cashews promote heart-health and are antioxidants. They contain 31% of the daily recommended value for copper, 23% for manganese and 17% for phosphorus and a substantial amount of vitamin K. Thus, they help in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. They help in relieving symptoms of asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, and ADHD. Loaded with ample amounts of proteins and dietary fibers, cashews provide wholesome goodness.

Although cashews are grown only in the tropical regions, umpteen varieties of roasted cashews can be found in almost any supermarket. The only problem with these packaged nuts is that you cannot control the amount of seasoning that is added to them. Some varieties of cashews may be packaged in oil, which might not be very good for your waist line.

So, why not make some roasted cashews at home? These stay good for days and can satisfy all your untimely hunger pangs! Here are some ways to make them at home.

How to Roast Cashews

We suggest you get peeled raw cashews. If, however, you are unable to find peeled ones, get them raw and peel them before roasting (best of luck with that!).

#1. In the Oven With Oil

✦ Preheat the oven to 325°F.

✦ Drizzle the cashews with some vegetable oil (about half a tablespoon of oil for every ¾ cup of cashews).

✦ Add the seasoning to it and mix well so that the cashews are properly coated with it.

✦ Place the nuts in a single layer on the baking tray. Place them in the middle rack of the oven and let them roast for five minutes.

✦ Remove the tray from the oven and stir them once again. Return the tray to the oven and let them roast for about another ten minutes.

✦ If they look a bit pale, you can roast them in the oven for an additional ten minutes. Make sure to keep an eye on them (you don't want to burn them). Ideally, it's fine if the cashews are a tad underdone, as they keep cooking even after they are removed from the heat.

✦ Let them cool for a few minutes (say, ten or so) before you store them in a container (you definitely do not want soggy cashews).

#2. In the Oven Without Oil

✦ Once again, preheat the oven to 325°F.

✦ Place the cashews in a single layer on a baking tray lined with baking parchment or silicon baking sheet.

✦ Place the tray in the middle rack of the oven and let them roast for twelve to fifteen minutes; stir after six minutes or so.

✦ In the meantime, make a salt solution by boiling about three tablespoons of salt in a cup of water.

✦ Once the nuts are almost done, remove them from the oven and spray a bit of the salt solution on them.

✦ Roast them for a few minutes more to evaporate the water sprayed.

✦ Remove them from the heat and let the nuts cool for a few minutes before storing them.

#3. On the Stove

✦ Add a little oil (half a tablespoon for every ¾ cup of cashew) to a skillet pan (or any heavy bottom pan) and swirl it around so that it coats the entire surface of the pan.

✦ Add the cashews to the pan and cook them on medium to medium-high heat.

✦ Keep stirring the cashews constantly to prevent them from burning.

✦ Give it about three to four minutes on the heat.

✦ Once the cashews have turned golden brown, remove them from the heat and let them cool for a few minutes before storing them in an airtight container.

#4. In the Microwave

In modern 'PDA' alert terms, the most common way a famous couple announces their union is by holding hands in public. This romantic gesture is so ancient that archaeologists recently dug up graves at a 'lost' chapel in Leicestershire, England, to find the skeletal remains of a 700-yr old couple holding hands even in death. Holding hands is like a public demonstration of 'coupledom.' It's a subtle sign that says 'I'm officially off the market' and belong to my significant other.

This amorous gesture has been adopted since ages as a wedding ritual that announces the unification of two souls into a wedlock. Handfasting is an auspicious tradition that resonates unwavering commitment, with colorful bands intertwined between the wrists of the bride and groom as they pledge lifelong devotion to each other.

Historic Facts

◆ Ritualistic binding of hands has been practiced in almost every ancient civilization like the Mayans, the Vedic, and the Celtic cultures, but the Scottish, Greek Orthodox, Wiccan and, most lately, same-sex couples prominently practice this tradition as a marriage ritual. This practice is significantly derived from the ancient infinity symbol depicted by the sun (female) and moon (male) in Indo-European cultures, or the sun (male) and moon (female) in Southern Mediterranean cultures.

◆ The term, handfasting, comes from the late medieval Old Norse: hand-festa meaning to strike a deal by joining hands. In holy matrimony, it means to bind in faithful commitment towards one another. During the 17th century, this tradition was rampant throughout Scotland with mutual consent from the couple without the church's blessings. People simply exchanged vows and lived together as a couple after the ceremony. This practice was greatly denounced by the church as it was considered sinful and unofficial to be married without the church's approval.

With the Marriage Act of 1939, this ritual was officially banned in Scotland. Similarly, the Kirk of Scotland also abolished this practice by the 18th century. Moreover, Lord Hardwicke's Act of 1753 in England legalized marriages only performed by a clergyman. Due to these circumstances, the Scottish border town of Gretna Green became the common refuge for eloping couples who wished to perform the handfasting ceremony.

◆ Walter Scott's novel, The Monastery revolutionized this ritual in the 19th century, by claiming that in ancient times this rite was a means to announce short-term commitment. It was sort of, like an engagement period between the couple for a year and a half to know each other after which they would officially get married or break off as per their wish. Since then, handfasting has been incorporated into wedding ceremonies as a universal theme regardless of the religion.

Types of Knots

This symbolic rite typically involves binding a couple's hands together with colorful cords, ribbon, twine or a silk sash while prayers are recited and vows are interchanged. Couples can choose to use a single string or twist three twines with each other to exemplify the entwining of the two hearts. The cords or ribbons are normally four to six feet in length, the threads can consist of multiple colors or a single color. Mainly silk is used as the official material and it may contain particular gemstones or good luck charms to sanctify the union.

Rope is mainly used in Latino ceremonies draped around the shoulder of the couple in a figure of eight. Kente cloth or grass plait is used in African-American ceremonies, the cords are tied to the bride's right wrist and to the groom's left wrist. Buddhist Rosary is used in a Buddhist ceremony which is tied around the wrists of the couple by the officiant of the ceremony or the parents of the couple. The Bride's Prayer Stole is used in a Christian ceremony which is tied to the couple's wrists to attest the couple's unity and their veneration towards God. Some of the handfasting knots have been mentioned below.

Fisherman's Knot

It is also known as the True Lovers Knot and consists of two interlinking, overhand knots that create a harmonious figure eight.

God's Knot

It symbolizes the spiritual union of the couple with devotion towards God. The couple themselves braid three cords, purple signifying the groom, white signifying the bride, and gold signifying God.

Trinity Knot

This ancient Celtic symbol is around 600 AD old, it is mainly used in the Irish wedding traditions. For the pagan followers, it represents the forces of mother, maiden, and the core. For Christian believers, it symbolizes the Holy Trinity.

Mystic Knot

Among the Feng Shui believers, the cords are wrapped around in an endless circle six times around the wrists of the couple representing the cycles of birth and reincarnation. It also symbolizes good luck, longevity, and harmony.

Infinity Knot

According to Wiccan tradition, the couple cross their arms and join their hands in a symbolic representation of figure eight or infinity. The priest or priestess then unites them with cords three times. Some couples opt to remove it after the ceremony while others wear it till they consummate the wedding.

Handfasting in Various Cultures

◆ The hands, particularly the wrists are bound during the ritual. One custom includes - while facing up each other, the couple intertwine their hands to form an infinity symbol while a cord is bound around their hands.

◆ As per German noble traditions, if the woman was a mistress then the ritual was carried out with the two left hands together without the tying of the knot, so that the woman could not claim the husband's name or property. But her offspring would be legal heirs second in line to the man's first offspring from his legal first wife. Hence it was also known as the 'left hand ritual'.

◆ This rite is ideally performed before or after the exchange of rings. In Celtic traditions, it includes 13 colored ribbons where each has a significant meaning. In Pagan traditions, it is concluded with the act of 'Jumping over the Broom.'

◆ Certain traditions consider it as a lucky charm if the bride is pregnant during the ceremony or if there is a pregnant woman present during the ceremony.

Celtic & Irish

◆ The tradition is believed to have originated from the ancient Celtic tribes that migrated into Europe around 7000 B.C. before the origin of Christianity.

This pagan ritual was more of a public, economic, and political union among the royals during the ancient times. The marriage was validated publicly through this tradition and hence was widely recognized throughout England, Ireland, and Scotland. This ceremony was significant to the rural areas as the union created by a handfasting ceremony was regarded as a 'common law' marriage. In the Irish culture any couple who performed this ceremony were distinguished as being conjoined, even if they married in an unorthodox way.

◆ During those times the Scottish and Irish cultures viewed handfasting as a symbol of 'betrothal' between the couple rather than marriage itself. It continued over the centuries until Christianity arrived in these nations and such marriages were not recognized by the church.

◆ The Council of Trent in 1527 declared that matrimony was a church sacrament and it must be conducted in presence of a priest. In the 1700s, England shunned handfasting in a legal way but Scotland did not. Although it was not lawfully acknowledged, there were Irish couples who discreetly kept up with the tradition in a way to maintain their Celtic inheritance.

◆ Since 2012, non-religious and pagan rituals have been made legal in the Republic of Ireland. With this, couples are choosing to walk the non-religious way down the aisle. The Pagan Federation of Ireland and the Spiritualist Union of Ireland are now accepted as religious bodies and can execute legal weddings.

Wiccan

◆ For the modern Pagans, a handfasting ceremony symbolizes commitment towards a loving relationship. There are two types of practices prevalent in this culture, one is known as the 'year-and-a-day' commitment, while the other is a lifelong commitment.

◆ The 'year and a day' handfasting is not accredited as a legal marriage as the couple mutually decide to stay with each other for a year-and-a-day after which they probably renew their vows or choose to part ways. Modern-day couples see this as a great way to test their love and also at the same time declare it for each other in front of their loved ones. This rite is officiated by a licensed Pagan priest or priestess.

◆ The second kind is a lifelong commitment and equivalent to holy matrimonial. A Wiccan wedding can be held around any time of the year although certain feast days, like Litha (the Summer Solstice) or Beltane (Mayday), are believed to be more auspicious for the ceremony. Weather is considered as a significant omen since the ceremony is generally held outside, the bride and groom may or may not dress up in traditional outfits.

◆ The wedding ceremony is performed inside a sacred circle sanctified by the officiant with a ritual knife. The four elements earth, fire, water, and air are invoked along with the pagan Gods and Goddesses to bless the ceremony. The couple officially declare their union in front of the altar decorated with the colorful bound cords.

◆ The priest/priestess then presides over the exchange of vows, and at this point the couple usually exchange rings. The couple then perform the Element Quest by invoking each of the elements in turn to consecrate their union. After the quest, the officiant calls upon the deities to sanctify the ceremony.

◆ The couple then conclude the wedding by jumping over the ceremonial broomstick still bound to each other. Traditional handfasting cakes and wine is served to the guests after the sacred circle has been opened through a reverse casting spell. Wiccan handfasting is a charming and bewitching ceremony through which couples pledge their love in a traditional manner.

What Does 'Cradle-to-grave' Mean?

Prom Dress
If reducing carbon footprint is in your interest, then cradle-to-grave is a technique which might help you in that process. This article explains the meaning of cradle-to-grave, and provides information about the process with a step-by-step explanation.
'Cradle-to-grave' meaning
Did You Know?
IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) approves of the 'cradle-to-grave' program, and implements it in the safe and secure management of radioactive wastes.

The manufacture of any product requires raw materials, processing the materials, distribution, maintenance, and disposal. Companies used to unceremoniously dump their waste anywhere, which would harm the environment. But with global warming, companies have adopted a way to implement unique methods into the manufacturing process which would maintain eco-balance.

One of the methods designed to curb wastage of products is the cradle-to-grave method or Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The definition, in its simplest terms, it assesses the environmental impacts associated at each step of the product's life cycle, from its creation to disposal. In essence, it compiles an inventory of energy-releasing materials, lists the potential impacts, and interprets a result, so as to make an informed decision. It aims to provide a holistic approach to the production process.

There are 2 types of LCAs: Attributional LCA and Consequential LCA. Attributional LCA seeks to establish the burdens associated with a product at a point in the cycle. Consequential LCA identifies the environmental consequences of a decision that may have market and economic implications.

Life Cycle Assessment

Goal
The goal of this cycle represents the making of the product and how it influences the other inputs and outputs. This step is highly important, as it can highlight different environmental problems and causes.

Inventory
Inventory involves creating a list of materials necessary in the input and output of a product. The data can be presented in a tabular format to highlight any discrepancies that may affect the manufacture of a product. The list can be acquired by either a questionnaire or survey, and for brand-specific industries they are conducted by their own representatives. All the questionnaires involve the mass of a product or the energy expended in manufacturing it. This step is also known as Life Cycle Inventory (LCI).

Assessment
Inventory is followed by impact assessment. This step evaluates the impacts it has on the environment. This is important as it selects the impact categories and the associated materials that go with it, and an impact measurement which calculates the overall impact of a product. Other elements of normalization, grouping, and weighting are considered before dividing them among the categories. This step is also known as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

Interpretation
The last step identifies any problems, if any, and evaluates the information from the results of the 2 stages, i.e., LCI and LCA. The outcome is determined by understanding the accuracy of the results, and the way they contribute in completing the goal.

Uses

▶LCA is a tool which helps create a product which would have a longer life.

▶LCA is increasingly used by almost all industries to make their products recyclable.

▶LCA also helps in providing warning signs to the steps in the manufacturing process which may harm the environment.

In Advertising
The cradle-to-grave strategy in advertising includes targeting kids to convert them into loyal customers and carry the brand of loyalty with them to adulthood. This strategy has been effectively used by McDonald's and Disney, to target young audiences through movies which convince kids to buy their products. From Disney princess-inspired prom gowns and ready-to-wear Disney bridal dresses to gift cards for new mothers, Disney makes sure that their target demographic remembers their name.

In Marketing
The cradle-to-grave close is a marketing technique that convinces buyers to buy the intended product, despite having no intentions of doing so. The buyer's objections are brushed off by highlighting the strong points of the product.

Despite being a good program for environmental protection, not all companies can adopt this strategy. Therefore, they prefer variants of the same program, such as cradle-to-gate, which assesses the product's life cycle from material extraction to ready-to-distribution outlets. This strategy helps improve the business strategy and reduce production costs. Like the one above, there are many, like the gate-to-gate, that looks at value-added process in the production chain; and well-to-wheel, that looks at production to delivery of transport vehicles.
